Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic the Maison Dupuy is closed!
There are many hotels in the French Quarter, but it’s fair to say that not all are created equal. Some hotels claim to have that authentic New Orleans feel, but seem to come up short in person. There are some true gems though, and one of our favorite hotels to recommend to visitors is Maison Dupuy.
Why you ask? Let me tell you…
The atmosphere
Maison Dupuy is anything but corporate; it has that French Quarter charm, and a “boutiqueness” that’s hard to describe. The first floor features a beautiful lobby that opens up to a courtyard and pool. They also have a great restaurant, The Bistreux, that locals frequent.
If it feels like Maison Dupuy has a sense of belonging in the French Quarter, that’s because it truly historically does. In the 1970’s the Dupuy family owned many long-standing condos on the block of Toulouse where the hotel now stands. The family eventually just took those condos and combined them to make the hotel, which is why this property feels so authentic.
(BONUS fact: Maison Dupuy is the last hotel built in the French Quarter. Soon after its opening in 1973, any future development in the area was banned.)
The rooms
Floors two through five are full of guest rooms, and you can’t book a bad one. There are 13 suites, and our favorite one is the Carriage House, a standalone cottage in the back of the hotel with its own private courtyard. If you’re looking for a romantic getaway, you can’t book a better suite than that.
Location
Maison Dupuy sits just two blocks off Bourbon Street, so close enough to near the action, but far enough away to escape it whenever you want. Bourbon Street is full of life, but this hotel is pretty quiet, which is great when you need a good night’s rest after being out and about all day.
Favorite features
The courtyard and pool are two of our favorite features. The hotel is known for its large, beautiful fountain, and the pool is one of the largest in the Quarter. There just enough separation between the two that they are separate spaces, but everything flows together nicely. We could stay in this space all day.
Event space
Maison Dupuy is also a popular wedding spot in the city. The courtyard is perfect for ceremonies and receptions, and the fountain is a popular backdrop for photos. If it rains, there are large rooms indoors that the staff can decorate spectacularly – so there’s always a rain plan.
Many businesses choose to have their meetings and corporate getaways here as well.
Reputation
One thing we notice about Maison Dupuy that bodes well for its reputation is the amount of people who stay in the hotel every time they come to New Orleans.
“We have a lot of repeat visitors,” hotel staffer Dana Crabtree said. “We have one group that comes for Jazz Fest every year from Australia. This was their sixth or seventh year, and they come for both weekends, 12 nights, because they just love this hotel.”
Specials
Maison Dupuy regularly offers special packages throughout the year, so always be on the look out. Right now they have a Stay and Play weekday package, that includes discounted parking and cocktails on arrival. We’ve heard that they are about to post some new packages, so check their website soon to see what they are.
