What To Do
There's always a lot to do in New Orleans, July Fourth is no exception.
You can spend the day exploring the city, taking in its historic sites, musical sounds and staying cool with the refreshing, spirited drinks.
If you love shopping, you could spend the day strolling through the French Quarter or trekking along Magazine Street Uptown and exploring the antique shops, art galleries and other great shops. You'll find more than souvenirs here.
There's plenty of dining options. Take a break while shopping along the six miles of shopping called Magazine Street and stop for lunch. Enjoy a New Orleans favorite like a po-boy sandwich or maybe something fancier like an exquisite meal at one of the legendary fine dining restaurants. As the day turns into the evening, head towards the French Quarter for dinner at one of the many historic restaurants and make sure you're close to the river front for the fireworks later that night.
If you're brining the family, you can spend the morning at the Audubon Zoo (6500 Magazine Street, New Orleans). There the young ones will love seeing the more than 2,000 exotic animals. When the afternoon heat sets in, head down to the Aquarium of the Americas (1 Canal Street, New Orleans) and enjoy the air conditioning, as well as 10,000 aquatic animals.
Fireworks
Last, but definitely not least is the spectacular Fourth of July Fireworks show over the Mississippi River. New Orleans celebrates independence with not just one, but two simultaneous shows of fireworks shot off from dueling barges. The massive show can be enjoyed from almost anywhere along the river front and throughout much of the French Quarter. It's a show that your family won't want to miss!

Baseball
What’s more patriotic than watching America’s Favorite Pastime on July 4th? The New Orleans Zephyrs take on the Iowa Cubs at 6 p.m. Tickets start at just $6 per person in advance (military service men and women, police, firefighters, and EMT tickets are just $5). So grab a cold one as you salute the men and women who’ve fought for our country!
Essence Music Festival
Essence Music Festival is a full weekend of top hip hop and R&B talent including names like Beyonce and LL Cool J. On the Fourth of July, they're hosting the Family Reunion Day at Woldenberg Park (1 Canal Street, New Orleans). This family fun day features old school favorites like ? Essence Festival is July 2-5 and features top entertainers and musicians such as Kevin Hart, Usher, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliot, Kendrick Lamar, Common, and more! Single night event passes to the Superdome start at $50.
